Strand Church traces its roots back to 1881 when church meetings began in Lisavon Street, in a temporary hall erected by the nearby Belmont congregation.
This was destroyed in a storm and the weekly meetings moved to Park Avenue where a Sunday school began.
In 1898, the work was approved by the Belfast presbytery and, on November 1, 1903, Strand became a congregation of the General Assembly installing its firs t minister the Rev W. J. Fawcett on January 24, 1904.
Rev David Thompson sees the centenary celebrations as an important occasion in the life of the congregation.
He says: “The congregation is looking forward to marking this significant milestone in its work and witness for God and is keen to encourage former members and friends to join the celebrations.”
